How do the Floating Bed bases float? What internal system do you use?

Our bed bases have 8 points of contact with the floor that are centered on the base, so there is no solid structure underneath. It’s supported with steel legs and each timber slat is individually secured to a steel frame. They are extremely strong and have been designed to support your weight and the weight of your mattress all while not moving around.

How strong is the system?

The internal system is our own design made of a steel frame that houses 12mm solid pine timber slats, each 70mm apart.

The approximate weight capacity of the slat system is around 400kg.

What will be the height of my mattress from the floor when added to your bed base?

The internal rail of our bases is 285mm from ground on most designs. If you add your mattress thickness it will give you your overall bed height. Most mattresses are 300mm - 350mm thick as standard.

Can we reduce the height of our bed base?

The internal rail can be lowered to have a deeper mattress inset resulting in a lower mattress height. This customisation costs between $100 - $250 more depending on how much lower you need it to be.

What is width of the timber rails on your floating bed bases?

The rails on our timber floating bed bases are 185mm wide.

How big is the gap between the floor and bed base?

The bottom of the timber rail is 150mm from the floor.

Beds over 3300mm often need to be made in three pieces and will require wall-mounting.

How do I clean my bed head?

In true minimalist living style or bed heads are designed to be as low maintenance as possible.

Keeping your bed head looking its best is easy with our removable slipcover designs,  which depending on your choice of fabric can be interchanged and professionally cleaned as needed. Always keep your bed head in a dry, mould-free room with good ventilation and away from direct sunlight. We also suggest running the vacuum over your bed head once in a while to collect any dust and pollutants.

All fabrics come with a warranty of up to 3 years with care instructions available on request.

How do I install my bed head?

Unless oversized, the majority of our bed head designs are free-standing to give you greater flexibility should you need to move house.

When ordering a complete bed frame they are made so that your bed head and bed base bracket together as one piece.

For any designs that include light switches or power, they will need to be wall mounted.

How and when do we need to wall mount our bed head?

We recommend any bed head that is over 2500mm wide or has power running through it to be wall mounted.  We use a French cleat system which is supplied on request and ready for install. Please be aware, that the wall mounting is not included in delivery and unfortunately is not a service we provide.

It's very simple process that you can do at home if you have a drill and are comfortable locating your studs. Alternatively a local handyman or Art Installer can manage it.

What power access options do I have for an oversized bed head?

Often our oversized bedheads cover power points or you may require light switches. In this case there are two options for to make power accessible:

  1. Probably the easiest option is a built-in GPO and USB (black or white). We provide and build the switch into the bed head, there is an extension cord at the back that runs from your bed head to your existing switch. This is a safe and easy option that doesn't require an electrician for installation. The price for this is $275.

  1. The second option allows a bit more flexibility for the design of the switch and is the best option for light switch access. This is where we do a cutout with a built-in framework in line with your existing GPOs. Then on install, you will need to organise an electrician to come out and pull the wires through and install your chosen faceplate on the bed head. The price for this is $150 + your electrican charge.

Can I have a Built in GPOs on a slipcover design?

Slipcovers can’t have GPO fixed to the face of your bed head as you won't be able to get your cover on and off. However, we can include a small cut out at the base of the bed head to feed your extension cord through. These are charged at $150 per set of two.

Can we specify Zetr or Clipsal switches?

Yes. We use Zetr surface 12’s regularly which don’t need to be sent to us prior to production. We can use any other switch from the Zetr or Clipsal range if that is your preference, however they will likely need to be posted to our factory prior to production of your bed.

Can I add or edit anything once my order is placed?

We can definitely work around delivery dates and schedule should your project be delayed. You will need to speak to us directly about making changes or additions as it will depends on the stage of production it's at.
